The Copernicus Crater

Copernicus Crater

Copernicus Crater, one of the Moon's most striking features, is located in the Oceanus Procellarum region. With a diameter of approximately 93 kilometres, this prominent impact crater showcases a well-preserved structure, complete with a complex system of terraced walls and a flat floor. The crater is estimated to have formed around 800 million years ago, featuring a central peak that rises 1,200 metres above the floor. Due to its vivid ray system, Copernicus is easily visible through small telescopes, making it a favourite among amateur astronomers.

This was taken during a 73% waxing phase which would be similar to sunrise here.
